At 10:19 a.m. on July 24th, Joliet police officers – on patrol in the area of South Ottawa Street and McDonough Street – were approached by a man who reported that a man had attempted to steal his pickup truck at gunpoint.
A preliminary investigation determined that the victim was driving a pickup truck southbound on South Ottawa Street near Wallace Street when he stopped to avoid striking a man who was walking in the roadway. The man allegedly approached the driver’s side of the truck, displayed a handgun, pointed it at the victim, and ordered him to exit the vehicle. The victim complied and exited the truck.
The suspect then allegedly attempted to take the vehicle but, after realizing it was equipped with a manual transmission, abandoned the attempt, instructed the victim to leave, and fled the area on foot. Officers quickly located the suspect in the 100 block of South Joliet Street. When officers attempted to make contact, the suspect fled while holding an item in his pocket. Moments later, the suspect was apprehended and taken into custody without further incident. The suspect was identified as Antwon Williams (41, Joliet).
