Portland city workers to check home recycle bins to ensure people ‘recycle right’

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland city contractors may soon be checking a recycling bin near you to make sure correct recycling practices are being followed.

The City of Portland’s new curbside education pilot project is aimed at making sure people “recycle right,” with feedback given to those who are putting improper things in their recycling bins, city officials said.

Beginning in August, workers will reach about 25% of Portland’s single-family homes, selected at random, and inspect recycling bins in the early morning on collection day. If any issues are found, they will leave a tag on the cart explaining what items weren’t allowed to be recycled.
