A flood watch is in effect for parts of Central New York from 11 a.m. Tuesday through Wednesday evening as a slow-moving storm system brings the threat of heavy rainfall and localized flooding to the region.
The National Weather Service warns that multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms will impact the region through Wednesday. Rainfall totals of one to three inches are expected, with locally higher amounts of three to five inches possible in some areas due to terrain effects and a strong low-level jet stream pulling moisture from the Atlantic Ocean.
The flood watch covers portions of Central New York along and east of I-81, where forecasters note uncertainty about exactly where the heaviest rain will fall. Some computer models show localized amounts exceeding six inches in spots.
