DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. — Fire officials in southwest suburban Downers Grove have transitioned from a rescue to a recovery operation as they continue to search for one of two workers who were trapped in a storm sewer below the street Monday, according to village officials.
The other worker was rescued from the sewer by first responders, authorities say, about 200 feet from the original entry point to the sewer. That worker was taken to an area hospital in good condition.
Authorities say that just before 1 p.m. Monday, Downers Grove police officers were flagged down by workers on a storm sewer construction area in the 800 block of Curtiss Street. The workers said two contractors were trapped in the sewer below the street…
