TOWN OF TURTLE — Three weeks ago, Turtle Town Board Chairman Roger Anclam was one of the key votes to approve a cost-reimbursement agreement with a California company hoping to build a data center in Rock County. Now, Anclam says he wants to end the project.
On July 8, Anclam was part of a 3-2 vote to approve the non-binding agreement with Panattoni Development Co. that would promise to cover the town’s costs of researching and working on the various plans and reports that would be needed to accept or reject a data center project. The agreement, which was to include an initial deposit of $250,000, didn’t bind the town to approving the proposed development.
The fact that developers were eyeing the Beloit area for a hyperscale data center became public in March. In mid-June, Irvine-based Panattoni officially showed off its data center campus concept at two different events.
