ROCKFORD — More than $2.5 million in state funding is going to more than a dozen local organizations and municipalities, paying for a range of initiatives from capital improvements to workforce development, after school programs, health care and support for veterans.
State Rep. Maurice West announced the funding on Tuesday in a two-part news conference in which he also launched his campaign for mayor. The local funding is in addition to roughly $20 million West secured for statewide projects. West said he worked to spread funding across all parts of the 67th District.
“I grew up in the city of Rockford and I saw the inequities that we had from one side of the river to the other,” he said. “I’m really excited that the funding we have this year is equitable, geographically equitable.”…
