Western US wildfire smoke is impacting Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Wildfire smoke has arrived in Alabama, which will have an affect on air quality in the coming days.

Wildfires have been burning thousands of acres in Oregon and Washington over the last week, sending massive plumes of smoke into the air. That smoke has been steered by an upper level ridge over 2,000 miles into the sky above central Alabama.

Smoke concentrations are expected to be moderate to dense between now and Friday, and they will produce a noticeable haze and tint to the sky. This is because the fine smoke particles scatter the sunlight. That will make for brilliant sunrises and sunsets…
