Which way, Lexington? Downtown master plan raises question of Main St. two-way conversion

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Lexington’s newly adopted downtown master plan is renewing a long-running debate over whether to convert Main Street from one-way to two-way traffic — a change city leaders, a mayoral candidate and residents are divided on.

The city’s Planning Commission last week adopted the Lexington Downtown Area Master Plan, shaped by input from more than 2,000 residents. The plan calls for new housing units, street and transit improvements and redevelopment of surface parking lots. It also notes that the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet did its own feasibility study on the Main Street conversion.
