Three plead guilty in 2021 Asheville murder case

RALEIGH, N.C. (WLOS) — Three people pleaded guilty in connection with a Sept. 2021 Asheville homicide case, N.C. Attorney General Jeff Jackson announced on July 30, 2026.

As News 13 previously reported, on Sept. 27, 2021, deputies responded to a gunshot wound report at 49 Ben Lippen Road in Asheville, where authorities found Boyce Shane Plemmons, 44, dead from a gunshot wound.

Then on Oct. 12, 2021, authorities announced three people were charged:

  • Carmen Gillespie of Buncombe County
  • Willie Byrd Jr. of Marietta, Georgia
  • Cross Beaver of Murphy, N.C.

According to an investigation, Byrd Jr. and Gillespie broke into the home, threatened Plemmons with a gun, stole his cell phone, then shot and killed him. Beaver was driving Byrd Jr. and Gillespie, Jackson’s office said…
