On the morning of Thursday, July 30, the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services held an official ribbon cutting ceremony for its new $10 million warehouse expansion in Creedmoor. Local Creedmoor and Butner officials were in attendance and NC Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler gave remarks.
The expansion, which adds 28,879 square feet to the warehouse space, is expected to increase operational efficiency and allow for the department to better serve the groups they work closely with.
“The warehouse serves as a distribution hub for food that comes from the USDA commodity programs, for the school lunch program, for emergency feeding facilities, food banks and feeding sites, and a senior food program that serves 16,000 low-income seniors across 70 counties.” Andrea Ashby, director of NCDA&CS Public Affairs, wrote in an email. “Not all states have a Food Distribution program so we are fortunate to be able to access USDA commodities.”…
