KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Masonic lodge on Locust Street in downtown Knoxville is an iconic site, and for anyone who’s parked at the Locust Street Garage just across the street, it’s hard to miss. The lodge’s future is uncertain though, and it could soon be facing demolition.
City of Knoxville records show a demolition permit was opened July 13. It’s still pending, but its a sign that the building may soon come down.
The lodge itself is listed online as the home of Oriental Lodge #453. The lodge’s website outlines the building’s history, which dates back to at least January of 1914, according to the Knox County Property Assessor’s Office…
