KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Hundreds of teachers from across Region Five of Knox County Schools gathered on Thursday for an educator summit ahead of the new school year.
Region Five Founding Director Dexter Murphy explained that this was a way to celebrate success and get off to a strong start, with teachers leading professional development sessions for other teachers. It also helps make sure everyone is on the same page, using the same strategies. This is the third year for the summit.

Region Five Supervisor Katie Lutton explained that this networking is also helpful for dealing with students who transfer schools.
“That transition is so important, and sometimes some information can be lost,” she said. “And so that networking from educator to educator really is meant to provide that wraparound understanding of where the students are academically and socially and emotionally so that handoff into the next school is seamless.”
KCS Region Five has around 1,000 staff members and includes the following schools:

- Green Magnet Academy
- Lonsdale Elementary
- Maynard Elementary
- Sarah Moore Greene Magnet Academy
- Spring Hill Elementary
- Holston Middle

- Fulton High
