EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island’s risk level for West Nile virus has been raised to “high” after the mosquito-borne disease was detected in three communities.
Health and environmental officials announced Thursday that mosquito samples collected July 20 in Providence, East Providence and North Providence tested positive for the virus.
Throughout mosquito season, which runs all the way through summer and fall, the state gathers samples from different areas each week and tests them for West Nile virus, eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) and other diseases they can carry. Those results are posted here…
