Former Birmingham police officer arrested by Birmingham Police Department

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A former officer with the Birmingham Police Department was arrested in connection to sex crimes involving a child, according to the BPD.

Gregory Thompson, 38, was taken into custody Thursday and charged with 1st degree rape, traveling to meet a child for an unlawful sex act and 1st degree sexual abuse. He is being held in the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.

According to the BPD, the investigation was the result of allegations that reportedly occurred while Thompson was still employed with the BPD.
