Castro Valley woman’s post gives immigrant parents sense of purpose, community

Cheann Vuong has learned a lot these past few months about the recycling business.

But the most important lesson she has learned has had very little to do with cans and bottles. It has been about community, kindness and the power of making people feel welcome.

“It was very overwhelming,” Vuong said. “I didn’t really expect that people would receive our story as warmly as they did. People are very kind.”

Vuong grew up in the Philippines, the daughter of two hardworking farmers. Fifteen years ago, she came to the United States, built a career, started a family, and made a life for herself…
