LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A man has been sentenced to serve at least 14 years in prison after his girlfriend’s 4-year-old shot herself with his gun.
Maliki Pendergrass on Wednesday was sentenced to serve 12 to 30 years in prison for a charge of safe storage of a firearm violation resulting in the death of a minor, the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office said in a Friday release. He was also sentenced to serve two years for felony firearm, which he will serve consecutively to the 12-year sentence, and a minimum of five years in prison for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person due to a prior felony conviction, which he will serve concurrently.
Pendergrass previously pleaded guilty to the three charges, along with a habitual offender sentence enhancement, third offense.

The fourth charge stems from armed robbery and carrying a concealed weapon conviction in 2020, the Ingham County Prosecuting Attorney’s office said in a previous release.
