It’s deep in the Dragoons, far from the crowds
About 70 miles east of Tucson, pink granite domes push out of the Dragoon Mountains like something left behind from another era.
The rock is patched with green and orange lichen, the air cools as you climb, and the open desert gives way to oak and juniper woodland around 5,000 feet. Most visitors to Arizona never make it out here.
The shaded canyons feel cut off from everything below, and that distance is exactly the point.
