GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A financial report prepared by North Carolina State Auditor Dave Boliek on Friday confirmed that members of the administration from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro awarded improper student financial assistance to family and friends that wasn’t merit-based for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2025.
The audit confirmed the university awarded approximately $747,649 in administrative recovery funds to 196 students as financial assistance without documented criteria. Auditors reviewed the awarding process over these administrative recovery funds and found that A&T wasn’t properly governed and didn’t detect or prevent unearned awards to students.

The improper financial awards were first unveiled during an internal audit by North Carolina A&T Chancellor James R. Martin.
