Two New Jersey men scammed a Riverside woman out of $25,000 and then tried to extort an additional $30,000 from her before they were arrested, authorities said.
The woman told Riverside police that the scam unfolded when a pop-up window reporting a virus appeared on her computer along with a phone number to call, the department said in a statement.
When she called, a man who claimed to be part of the Wells Fargo bank security team said the woman had introduced a virus to its network and would have to pay a $25,000 penalty to avoid being reported to the FBI…
