While I was in Del Mar celebrating my birthday, Lucky Baldwin’s Trappiste on Colorado Boulevard officially closed its doors. By the time I returned to Pasadena, it was too late to stop in for one last pint.
Truth be told, I rarely called it Lucky Baldwin’s Trappiste. To me, and I suspect to many others, it was simply “Lucky Baldwin’s near PCC.” If someone asked where to meet after work, before a game, or just because nobody could make up their mind, that was usually my answer. It was one of those dependable gathering places where friends could always find each other.
The entire block is expected to be redeveloped into a seven-story mixed-use project featuring affordable housing, retail space, and parking. That’s the future of the property, although a construction timeline has not yet been announced. That’s progress, I suppose, but it also means another familiar Pasadena landmark becomes a memory…
