BOSSIER PARISH, La. — Bossier Parish’s newest teachers wrapped up their training with the Bossier W.I.N.S. (We Invest In New Staff) event Monday, August 3, a work session led by guest speaker Iantha Ussin, an academic consultant.
With the first day of school this week, first-year instructors attended the session as students.
Focus on classroom management
Ussin said new teachers need to establish order, systems and routines from the start.
“To go in the first few days and set the stage with order, with systems, with routines — they can’t teach without having the order in the classroom,” Ussin said. “They never get to the instruction if we can’t manage the systems in the room. So, to keep down disruption, to keep down behavioral problems, they need to have the systems in the order.”…
