LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Mayor Craig Greenberg praised the Louisville Metro Police Department Tuesday for studying how its officers conduct traffic stops and searches, and for examining whether any bias exists. His comments came after the city’s inspector general raised an alarm Monday about a report showing black drivers in Louisville were searched 66% more by police than white drivers.
Report draws concern from community leaders
Lyndon Pryor, president and CEO of the Louisville Urban League, said the findings were not surprising.
“It is incredibly disappointing and frustrating, particularly given where we are as a city, post Breonna Taylor, post federal consent decree, and the like,” Pryor said.
Pryor said the report is why Metro Council should codify the community commitment, Louisville’s promise to enact police reforms without a Justice Department consent decree in place.
