Council approves Arboretum retail center

The Fontana City Council recently approved amendments to the Arboretum Specific Plan, clearing the way for a nearly 70,000-square-foot retail center at the northwest corner of Sierra Avenue and Terra Vista Drive. According to city staff, the amendments do not increase the number of homes originally planned for the development.

“We won’t end up with any additional units beyond what the specific plan and the associated environmental document originally contemplated,” Associate Planner Cecily Session-Goins said. “Those units are now placed into other areas within the specific plan area.”

The 69,617-square-foot retail center within the Arboretum Specific Plan is anchored by a Stater Bros. Market grocery store, surrounded by various shops and a drive-through McDonald’s. The in-line shops will house both retail stores and office tenants in two locations — one positioned directly next to the grocery store. 477 parking spaces will be available in the commercial center, meeting the city’s requirement.
