Kansas school districts can no longer respond to students on social media under new state law

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) — A Kansas law banning the use of personal devices during the school day has extended to social media communications between school districts and students.

Senate Substitute for Substitute for House Bill 2299, which passed in March 2026, prohibits school districts and school employees from using social media to communicate with students for official school purposes. It also bars districts from requiring the use of social media for any assignment or extracurricular activity.
