ABC-TV’s Martha Raddatz on war reporting, her new book and growing up in Salt Lake City.

Martha Raddatz has covered war zones around the world, and being situationally aware has been of utmost importance to her well-being. But an inner compass has also guided Raddatz from her school days at Salt Lake City’s East High to her role as chief global affairs correspondent for ABC.

These days, Raddatz, 73, says that she has an additional quest—bringing Americans’ attention to a group of all-too-often anonymous men and women, via her New York Times bestseller, The Hero Next Door.

“There is no sure way to spot a hero,” she writes in the book. In fact, she poses the direct question, “Who does deserve to be called a hero?”…
