Meet a musician inspired by the streets of Boston where he grew up

Many artists will tell you they were inspired by where they grew up. Haasan Barclay takes it a step further, not only making music but also finding ways to give back to the community so others can do the same.

“Boston has influenced my artistry in the sense that it kind of molded my whole character, this whole city. The lack of resources, that I’ve seen in the city has forced me to think about how to do things in unique ways,” said Barclay.

Barclay is a multi-instrumentalist, producer and singer-songwriter. When he’s is not in the studio producing music, he helps fellow artists by funding the arts in Boston.

He has dedicated time working at The Record Co., a nonprofit that offers affordable studio spaces for recording artists. He has also worked with Save the Harbor Save the Bay, a nonprofit that works toward keeping the water clean and usable. Oh, and he’s also worked for the mayor’s office, helping organize events on City Hall Plaza.

As an artist, Barclay’s creative process may look different from others since he wears many hats. Not only is Barclay the singer, he’s also a producer, musician and songwriter…
