CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A dispute over the future of juvenile detention in Mecklenburg County is intensifying as local leaders work to secure millions of dollars in state funding to renovate and reopen the former Jail North facility for youth offenders.
The debate comes as Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden prepares to partially reopen Jail North later this month to help relieve overcrowding at the Mecklenburg County Detention Center-Central in Uptown Charlotte.
