CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — After almost seven inches of rain statewide last month, the water line at Freedom Park is rising back to normal.
But officials say the outlook is still fluid — lake levels, stream flow and drought monitors will determine when Charlotte’s water restrictions ease.
Historic Carolina drought likely to end by October
“The summer has been very rainy and has helped us out a lot,” said Charlotte City Water spokesperson Camden Coley. “So the lake levels are doing better; the drought monitor is doing better. So, the streamflow is where we really are looking for improvement.”
Leaders of the Catawba-Wateree Water Management group say that’s their main area of focus right now. Officials say heavy rainstorms won’t significantly improve conditions, due to how low water levels have been this summer. …
