FOLEY, Ala. (WALA) – A 16-year-old Baldwin County boy who died following an ATV crash in June donated his organs to multiple recipients — including two people with close ties to his own family.
Connor Burgess was riding his four-wheeler near his home when something went wrong. He was rushed to the hospital and taken into surgery. Doctors could not save him. A week later, family, friends and hospital staff stood beside Connor during an honor walk at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.
Heart recipient had been waiting since Mother’s Day
Tony Lee, a cousin of Kristy’s soon-to-be sister-in-law, received Connor’s heart. Lee said he had been living with an LVAD — a device that helps pump blood through the heart — for about a year before getting the call.
“We had just had a benefit car show for me. And we had just got home and were sitting, hearing my phone ring, and the nurse said, are you ready? I’m like, ready for what? They said, we accepted a heart for you,” Lee said…
