SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Get ready for a typical summer pattern to take over. East to southeast winds will bring afternoon and evening storms to the area through early next week, according to the ABC7 First Alert weather forecast.
Thursday: Storms Likely in the Afternoon
Your Thursday morning will start dry, but don’t let that fool you. Showers and storms will develop in the afternoon, with the most active period between 2 and 5 p.m. Some of those storms could pack a punch.
Rain chances climb to 60 to 70 percent once afternoon arrives, especially near the coast. Temperatures will reach the low 90s, with coastal areas running a degree or two warmer thanks to storms arriving a bit later. Inland areas will struggle to reach 90 degrees. Easterly winds will shift onshore along the immediate coast early in the afternoon as the sea breeze develops. As it moves inland it will collide with the southeast winds and initiate the storms. That SE wind will then push the storms toward the coast later in the afternoon and through the evening.
Friday and Saturday: More Afternoon Storms
Friday looks similar to Thursday. Widespread rain will develop in the afternoon and taper off by evening. Saturday also brings a good chance for showers and storms to develop.
Sunday Through Early Next Week: Slight Decrease, But Still Wet
Rain chances drop slightly on Sunday, with a typical 50-50 shot at scattered afternoon storms. A drier air mass moves in Monday and Tuesday, but afternoon rain chances will still be in the forecast.
