‘Cyprus Fire’ sparks in Magna, burns 21.6 acres near SR-201

MAGNA, Utah (ABC4) — A grass fire has sparked in Magna, but as of the latest update, forward progress has stopped.

The grass fire, now dubbed “Cyprus Fire” is estimated at approximately 21.6 acres and is burning on private land near 7200 W and SR-201.

Firefighters have the south end of the fire secured along a paved road, while the north end is holding with a wet line. Air resources are actively engaged, and firefighters are working to strengthen containment lines. Forward progress has stopped, but crews are continuing to work “aggressively” around the perimeter to secure the incident.

The majority of the smoke is reportedly coming from a “junk pile” on the northwest side of the fire…
