Birmingham has plenty of tacos—but does downtown have room for a new favorite? Located just down the street from Regions Field and across from Fairway Social, De Nada Tacos Margs & Más opened a little over three months ago, and this upscale-casual Mexican kitchen is already making waves in the food scene. Family-friendly with outdoor seating for when the weather is nice, here’s why you should check it out.
A Family Legacy
The son of Mexican immigrants, Armando Martinez grew up bussing tables at his parents’ restaurant in Spain Park. Slowly, he worked his way up, learning everything from how to serve tables and work in the kitchen to management. A few years ago, he started dreaming of owning his own restaurant. Fast-forward to today: De Nada is the fruition of those hopes and plans.
After researching restaurants across the country (and world), he intentionally crafted everything—from the menu to the decor.
Come for the Food, Stay for the Atmosphere
Whether you’re dressing it up for a special night out or just rolling up with your motley crew, De Nada invites you to come in, relax, and enjoy good, authentic Mexican food. “Every detail—menu, service, and atmosphere—is crafted to make guests feel at home,” their website explains. “More than a restaurant, De Nada is a gathering place for community: a welcoming table where authentic taste and thoughtful hospitality leave you thinking, ‘That was delicious, the people were friendly, and the place was welcoming.’”
Margaritas, Happy Hour & Standout Service
If, like me, you have a hard time deciding what to order, you’re in luck: the service at De Nada is above and beyond. And not only are they friendly, they give excellent recommendations. You’ll also see their most popular items starred on their menu. If you’re starting with drinks, you can’t go wrong—they just might have the best margaritas in town.
The Coco-Rita is creamy and sweet, the Texas Sun Margarita is bright and citrusy with a vibrant splash of blood orange, and the Lone Star Swirl swirls frozen marg with Sangria. And that’s not even talking about the house cocktails. If the kids are looking for something fun to sip, they can get a Passion Fruit Mocktail, a Mexican soda, and more…
