EUGENE, Ore. – Eugene Police Street Crimes Unit officers seized more than $214,000 in cash and several pounds of drugs after wrapping up a year-and-a-half-long investigation, according to the Eugene Police Department.
EPD officials said that officers served a search warrant at an apartment on Garden Avenue on Aug. 5. The investigation focused on 35-year-old Eugene resident Matthew David Gaston and 46-year-old Eugene resident Patrick John Cox. Officers spotted Gaston leaving the apartment on foot that afternoon. They caught him in the parking lot of a nearby business, where he briefly resisted before being taken into custody. Officers recovered a handgun from his waistband, $30,100 concealed in his underwear and an additional $1,314 from his wallet.
Officers got a warrant to search Gaston’s backpack and a fanny pack. During a search of his belongings, officers found and seized about three pounds of powdered fentanyl, 27 grams of meth, $3,660 from the fanny pack and $178,995 in bulk cash wrapped in plastic and tape…
