LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man incarcerated at Louisville Metro Corrections faces an additional 15 years behind bars following his conviction for a brutal, unprovoked assault on another inmate, Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman announced Thursday.
A Jefferson County jury found Jacob Burnett, age 43, guilty on Wednesday of first-degree strangulation (a Class C felony), fourth-degree assault (a Class A misdemeanor), and being a first-degree persistent felony offender. The jury recommended a 15-year prison sentence.
According to prosecutors with the Attorney General’s Violent Crime Reduction Team, the incident occurred in May 2022 while Burnett was housed at Louisville Metro Corrections.
