Cyberattack Hits Three Ports In North Carolina

WCNC News reports that a cyberattack on the North Carolina Ports IT system on Tuesday, August 4, affected operations at all three of North Carolina’s ports: two coastal locations in Wilmington and Morehead City, and an inland port in Charlotte.

In a statement to the news organization on Wednesday, North Carolina Ports said, in part:

“Late yesterday, the North Carolina Ports IT system was hacked by an outside actor or group. Our IT team immediately enacted our Cybersecurity Contingency Plan and engaged relevant partners, including the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the North Carolina Department of Information Technology, and the U.S. Coast Guard. The breach has been contained, and we are now in the recovery process…
