CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Overcrowding, a health care crisis, and illegal drug contraband are the root causes of a recent string of in-custody deaths, Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden said in an Aug. 7 statement.
McFadden, who is seeking reelection in November, offered condolences to the families of those who died in the county’s detention center before outlining the challenges faced by his office.
