HOPE MILLS, N.C. (WNCN) — A funeral service was held Saturday afternoon in Hope Mills for a married Fayetteville dad and Fort Bragg soldier who was killed during the controlled demolition of an Iranian drone in Iraq last month.
Staff Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton, 30, died on Sunday, July 19, during the incident involving one-way unmanned aerial system at Erbil Air Base in Iraq, the U.S. Department of War reported.

A Fayetteville native, Swinton leaves behind a wife and a boy and girl. He was an active duty soldier after joining the U.S. Army in 2017
“Above every title he held, the ones he treasured most were husband and father,” his obituary said. “Michael was a proud big brother who deeply loved his siblings and treasured the bonds he shared with his family,” his obituary said.
