LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) — The Jefferson County Clerk’s Office is urging local homeowners to protect their property following the recent arrest of a local pastor accused of deed fraud.
Melvin James Cuff, 79, the senior pastor at Greater Harvest Baptist Church, was arrested and charged with forging a woman’s signature to steal the deed to her property. The victim told police she had not sold her home to anyone.
“We have the Clerk Alert now in place that will hopefully protect homeowners. That’s what we really want,” said Ashley Tinius, Director of Communications for the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office. “And again, it can’t stop someone from doing what they’re out to do. But it would notify you, and it would stop them from being able to successfully forge your property.”…
