Embers from landfill trash fire started 25-acre grassfire that threatened homes, officials say

Embers from a landfill fire sparked a runaway grass fire in Hillsboro that torched 25 acres and threatened multiple homes Saturday, officials say.

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue said in a statement that the fire started around 4:20 p.m. in a field near a landfill on Southwest Minter Bridge Road.

Firefighters responded to the original garbage fire but soon learned that it’d spawned another, separate blaze that tore through a 40-acre field of dry grass with the help of dry winds that fanned the flames…
