First Alert Weather Day Tuesday

Tuesday is now a First Alert Weather Day as we are tracking the chance of strong to severe thunderstorms.

Main concerns will be damaging winds and heavy rainfall which could lead to more localized flooding . Stay tuned with WDBJ7 for more updates.

This Week

Temperature begin to soar back into the 90s early this week as a ridge of high pressure builds off the Southeastern seaboard. With the added humidity, it will feel more like the upper 90s.

Temperatures get a little bit cooler later this week with highs back into the low to mid 80s.

***Drought Monitor Thursday 8/06 Update***(More Improvements!)

The drought monitor continues to slowly improve across the region. Severe & extreme drought covers less of our area. Moderate & Abnormally dry drought continues to expand further from West Virginia into our region. We’re still finding a portion of the region under a severe drought with a smaller area under an extreme drought, we still need more rain!

Tracking the Tropics

The Atlantic basin is starting to wake up, with 3 areas of interest for tropical formation. Our next tropical system would be named Cristobal. Stay tuned for more updates.
