FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)— A one-mile stretch of Oxford St. in southeast Fort Wayne will look a lot different in about a year.
The City of Fort Wayne surveyed 300 people who live or work along Oxford, between S. Anthony Blvd. and Lafayette St., asking them questions about their neighborhood. The survey revealed that 95% of respondents said the stretch had little-to-no amenities and felt unwelcoming. In addition to that, the average score respondents gave the corridor overall was a 1.73/4.
The survey input was used by the city to come up with a design for a new Oxford Streetscape. This project comes after the city finished the Pontiac Streetscape project in 2024. Those surveyed said they wanted to see more lighting, trees, bike racks, and benches.
PJ Thuringer, Redevelopment Administrator for the City of Fort Wayne, said the goal of the streetscape project is to “improve it for the neighborhood, improve it for the residents, improve it for the businesses along the corridor.”…
