DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — A Hershey brewery is getting more than $200,000 from Gov. Josh Shapiro’s administration to help cut pollution by capturing and reusing carbon dioxide produced during the beer-making process.
Tröegs Independent Brewing received $204,284 to install a carbon dioxide reclamation system, according to Jessica Shirley, secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection. Shirley said the system “captures carbon dioxide from the fermentation process and uses the carbon dioxide later during the beverage production process.”
Chris Trogner, co-founder and co-owner said brewing requires significant resources, including electricity and water. “Running a brewery is very energy intensive so electricity we buy a lot of electricity,” Trogner said. “We now generate some with solar with beer comes water, it takes a lot of water to make beers. and we try to take steps to reduce water whenever we can throughout our process.”…
