LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – A major water main replacement project on North Limestone is wrapping up after more than a year of construction, but not before taking a toll on at least one nearby business.
The road closure runs from North Limestone and East Loudon to Luigart Court. Kentucky American Water Senior Manager Susan Lancho said the project replaced 6,360 linear feet of cast iron water mains, with installation dates ranging from 1884 to 1937. The project began in the summer of 2025 and has a total cost of approximately $5.7 million.
What the project involved
Lancho said the final portion of pipework, which required a road closure for the past few weeks, involved boring through rock under a railroad track on North Limestone. She said that work is being completed Monday, which will allow the road to reopen Tuesday.
Lancho said the next phase will include concrete restoration work along the route, expected to be completed in about one week without significant disruption.
