MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A man accused of leading state troopers on a high-speed chase through Memphis earlier this month, ending in a crash that killed a bystander, was out on bond for a separate police chase at the time, according to court records.
Reggie Pederson, who had no involvement in the chase, died in the crash, records show.
Court records show Donell Alford drove away from Memphis Police Department officers on July 4 during a traffic stop. About 30 minutes later, state troopers located him, pursued him, and arrested Alford on an allegation of vehicle theft. Six days after that arrest, records show Alford posted bond and was released from jail.
On Aug. 2, records show a state trooper clocked Alford traveling nearly 90 mph in a 40 mph zone on Airways Boulevard. The trooper caught up to Alford at Airways and Ketchum Road, but said Alford continued at a speed “too fast for road conditions,” crossing into oncoming traffic and ignoring red lights…
