MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Speaking publicly for the first time since his confirmation as the top federal prosecutor for southwest Alabama, Sean Costello said he wants to make the region “radioactive” for criminals.
Costello was one of a number of U.S. attorney nominations confirmed by the Senate on Friday. He joined the office in 2003 as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Alabama and has been acting as U.S. attorney since 2021. President Joe Biden never nominated a U.S. attorney for Mobile, so Costello carried over into the second Trump administration. As U.S. attorney, he manages 27 prosecutors, 27 support staff and seven contract employees for an office that prosecutes federal cases in a 13-county area in southwest Alabama.
