AUSTIN (KXAN) — The state of Texas on Monday asked a Dallas County court to let it intervene in a lawsuit between a surrogate mother and a California couple concerning potentially life-saving medical care of an unborn child, according to a press release Tuesday from the Office of the Attorney General.
According to the release, the unborn child was diagnosed in utero with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, which affects the development of the left side of the heart. A child with the condition will typically require multiple surgeries soon after birth.
