Lexington County could take on $74 million in debt for a sports complex

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) – The Lexington County Recreation Commission is proposing a multi-sports complex off Interstate 77 at the 12th Street Extension, and a $74 million bond issue would put most of the cost on taxpayers.

The plan calls for more than 300 acres of land and an indoor facility measuring 150 feet that could accommodate 12 basketball courts or convert to 24 volleyball courts.

Eight high school and college regulation baseball fields are planned for the exterior, along with a hotel, restaurant and retail space intended to attract regional and national events to the Midlands…
