A Florida-based educational company plans to build a charter school on the site of a historic one-room schoolhouse in Ankeny, but says it plans to restore the old schoolhouse as part of its vision.
Somerset Academy Inc. has purchased land at 2605 SW Oralabor Road, where the proposed school will be built. When complete, it will serve 1,150 students in grades kindergarten through eighth, and employ about 75 faculty and staff.
The total cost of the project is about $19 million and the school is expected to be open for the 2027-28 or 2028-29 school years…
