RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Animal Ark Wildlife Sanctuary has temporarily closed its doors and is monitoring its animals around the clock after the Bug Fire burned dangerously close to the property.
Firefighters from the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District, Reno Fire Department, Brush 11, and other local agencies took intense measures to prevent the flames from reaching the sanctuary. While the fire came close to the property line, staff confirmed that all structures and animal enclosures remain intact.
However, the threat is not entirely over. Staff are working 24/7 to protect the animals. The heavy smoke can be particularly dangerous to sensitive species such as birds. Keepers are closely monitoring all animals, ready to move them to safer areas of the property as needed, while trying to keep their daily feeding and care routines as normal as possible…
