LANSING, Mich. (News 10) – Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing carries the eighth-highest jackpot in the game’s history, with one lucky ticket holder potentially walking away with $1 billion.
The odds of winning stand at 1 in 292 million. Tickets must be purchased by 9:58 p.m., with the winning numbers drawn at 10:59 p.m.
What happens if you don’t win
Even non-winning tickets carry a benefit — a portion of each ticket sold goes to the Michigan School Aid Fund and other organizations throughout the state. The retailer that sells the winning ticket will receive $50,000 from the Michigan Lottery.
‘Purchasing that opportunity to dream’
Michigan Lottery spokesperson Jake Harris said the appeal of a ticket goes beyond the odds.
“You think about what you would do with the billion dollars from the time you purchase that ticket until the time the drawing happens,” Harris said. “That’s really what you’re doing is purchasing that opportunity to dream about what you would do if you won. It’s very exciting, and hopefully we’ll have a Michigan winner when it’s all said and done tonight.”…
